Memorable Rainy Day Wedding

Rain on your Wedding day is traditionally considered good luck. So what luck for this amazing couple, Kari and Philip! Making the most of the inclimate weather, Heathwood Photography captured the magic of their big day. The bride got ready (and amazingly stayed flawless despite the rain) at the Nu Hotel in downtown Brooklyn. The party then moved to Deity Wedding Venue for the ceremony and reception. The place was decked out by the super talented Rosehip Social florists. Making the space romantic with the Jewish-tradition chuppah, live greenery, and rose petals. To top the evening off, there was a modern Wedding cake by One Girl Cookies. A sweet end, to a memorable day.

We checked in with the Bride, Kari, and here is what she had to say about their big day!

Describe your wedding day: “Our wedding day was exactly what we had wanted, and more. So many guests separately gave us the same feedback : “it was such a happy day”. It really was! There was so much love in the room, complimented by good food, good drinks, good music, and a beautiful venue space.”

Was there something that surprised you on your wedding day? “Our wedding day ended up being a gray, rainy day (which was not a surprise, as we had been checking the weather daily, for weeks leading up to the big day). What ended up being surprising, was how the rain actually completed the day for the better. It added a hurdle that we were able to tackle, and made some moments of the day the most memorable (eg, taking our pre-planned wedding day photo at the outdoor Brooklyn Heights promenade — with me standing on a tarp so my dress didn’t get soaked, and Phil’s groomsmen shooting umbrellas over our heads each second the cameras stopped flashing). These promenade photos are our favorites from the day. An unsuspecting viewer would never know what was going on behind the scenes.”

If you had to pick one favorite memory from that day what would that be? “Taking photos with our friends and families before the wedding, was really special. It felt surreal that the big day was finally happening, and so many people we love were there to celebrate with us.”

How did you find and decide on Deity as your Wedding Venue? “This is actually a funny story, and Phil and I believe it was fate 🙂

We live in the area. We had just been at lunch with friends, discussing how impossible it felt to find a venue that met all of our needs (location, vibe, etc.) … we were walking home, continuing to discuss this issue, and we both turned and looked up at Deity at the same time. There was a rope outside the venue, as they were having an event. Phil said, “This place happens to be a wedding venue.”  As we started to chat about it, enter Caio: he walked over to us and introduced himself as the owner. We took some information home with us, called to schedule a tour, and the rest was history. Deity was the only venue we toured, as we fell in love at first site, and couldn’t imagine our wedding anywhere  else.”
