Deity Events Wedding, the First Time
Just about 18 years ago, in Brooklyn, Caio Dunson was tending to one of his newest projects. Previously a synagogue, turned antique store, then turned night club.
Kristine, a fashion designer who worked at Kimera next door, met Caio in front of the building.
While Kristine and Caio were dating they worked together with family and friends to make the brownstone into a two floor lounge and nightclub. It became “a center for the art and LGBTQ community in the Boerum Neighborhood,” quoted the Brooklyn Paper. Then they decided to transition the sleek night club into a romantic sanctuary for weddings and other grand events. “Deity simply is an attempt to bring the Brooklyn community together in a creative way in a welcoming space,” said Caio.
If going through two massive renovations as a couple isn’t crazy enough; Kristine thought, “hey wouldn’t it be fun to get married on 7-7-7?” This prompted the idea to tie the Knot in the most unconventional way possible.
In preparation for the big day they picked a cake from the Betty Bakery. “It was really important to have a delicious cake!,” said Kristine.
They hired an officiant, and Kristen Costello as their photographer about six months in advance.
Kristine had her dress made by Kimera Design from next door where she worked when she met Caio. It was made with pink accents to stray away from the traditional all white. She added some personal touches like making her best friend’s dress by hand (by tricking her friend into thinking it was a maternity dress, because she was five-months pregnant at the time). Kristine also made Caio’s shirt.
Last, they got a few flowers to match the pink accents in their cake and dresses from Opalia.
When their childhood friends came to visit on July 7th 2007- SURPRISE; a wedding!
The pop-up wedding couldn’t have been more perfect for Caio and Kristine. The couple wanted a stress free day with those who were closest to them. As they were renovating Deity into a wedding and event venue they wanted to give this similar feeling to all couples having a celebration. Because of this, Deity offers packages for weddings and events that includes nearly everything, even a coordinator for the little details. Now over 80 weddings a year take place in the room that Kristine and Caio had their pop-up wedding in the room that they built.

The Deity Loft today.
This summer marks the 15 year anniversary of the first Deity Wedding! Here was Deity’s first Wedding couple in Santorini, Greece in 2017 for their 10 year anniversary recapturing the spirit of their Wedding Day at Deity.
Unfortunately for you believers in love out here. Here is an update for the First Deity wedding: Caio and Kristine are now getting Divorced in 2022. After 18 years together, Caio has decided to trade Kristine in for a younger model and has put her value as a contributor to the business ridiculously low. It’s quite sad. Considering Kristine put her entire life into the creation and running of Deity. Caio now sees it fit to move on and leave Kristine with nothing. Pretty typical toxic masculinity. Throwing away his naive, overly devoted wife for a new source of ego boosting. Please note all Interior Design, Web Design, and Marketing of Deity Events for the past 18 years has been the work of Kristine
